Tibetan govt-in-exile honours Devi Cherian

In recognition of her contribution in the Himachal states’ NGOs dedicated specially to handicapped children, socialite and social activist Devi Cherian was awarded the Sarv Sreshte Suputri Award for 2006.  The prime minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile, Sam Dhong Rin Poche, awarded the honour at a public gathering in Dalhousie on Monday.

“This honour is inspiring and humbling at the same time,” said Devi Cherian, who was decorated in a traditional local manner with a Himachali topi, a shawl and a plaque with a citation.  “This honour will enthuse me to work harder, both as an ambassador of the state and also as someone deeply concerned with those who need support in the battle with life,” Devi added.
